Song Support

A Passion Project

Some people have seen it in real life.

Others have seen it in the media.

Some bands preach it, and others don’t know it yet.

But music has the power to save lives and on a smaller scale, to make an impact.

So how do we help people recognize and utilize the power of music on mental health in an accessible way?

Introducing  Song Support

Playlists will be available on music streaming services that are created and catered to a specific goal and theme.

Scattered throughout the playlist will be a mix of CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), DBT (Dialectical Behavioral Therapy), regulative exercises, and check-ins. This can range from reminding the listener to think about if they have eaten or hydrated lately and how that could impact their emotional regulation, to suggesting a progressive muscle relaxation exercise. Music provides opportunities for grounding, emotional regulation, catharsis, understanding, visualizing, and so much more.

Each person deserves the chance to feel ok, and music isn’t a one-size-fits-all solution. This is why each playlist will have direct links to accessible mental health services and hotlines.

Each person reacts differently to different songs, there would also be an option to create one’s own playlist based on the format, with therapeutic exercises, hotlines, and prompts to help you build a playlist if you are getting lost. For example; what is a song that's connected to a positive memory? It can also include the science behind the prompt, like how when your brain becomes familiar with a song, sometimes it leads your body to hear the first few notes, recognize it, and release dopamine (Fink, 2020).

Together we're trying to let people embrace. Embrace the power that music can have, embrace the memories, the connections and embrace the good things that can come from it.

*Please note that playlists are currently works in progress and do not have all features available.*
